Hidden Histories AR App

Hidden Histories is an augmented reality (AR) experience that immerses guests in the history of our storied resort.

Through this free mobile app specifically developed for Mohonk, guests will be sent on a journey to locate 12 pieces of artwork that act as trigger points for the app. When viewing the artwork through the app, guests will see the walls of the Mountain House come to life, and unlock videos featuring Smiley Family members, longtime staff, and loyal guests.

Walk the halls of Mohonk Mountain House to unlock videos hidden within the artwork. First, tap the artwork in our virtual gallery to reveal the location in the Mountain House where the videos are hidden. When you find the actual artwork in the halls of the Mountain House, tap the camera icon on your screen, hold up your device, and center the artwork on your screen to unlock the hidden video. It’s easy to use and instructions are also provided in the app.

Yes, this is required in order to use the app. When you open it for the first time, you will be prompted with “Allow Hidden Histories to take pictures and record video?” Because the app requires the use of your camera, select “Allow” to continue. If you choose “Deny” the app will not function and you will not be able to experience Hidden Histories.

Uncover the hidden histories of Mohonk in augmented reality! You’ll learn about Mohonk’s unique history and hear from staff, family, and guests. If you unlock all 12 videos, you may enter our sweepstakes for a chance to win a 2 night stay for two at Mohonk Mountain House!

Make sure the entire artwork, including its frame, is centered on your screen and you are positioned directly in front of it. Try taking a step back, or a step forward, and avoid holding your device at a sharp angle—if you’re positioned too close, too far, or off-center, the app might not recognize the artwork. When you see “Video Unlocked,” the AR effect will display on your screen.

You can’t see the AR effects again unless you delete and reinstall the app, but you can watch the videos you’ve unlocked at any time.

Any device with access to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and access to WiFi. Download the app on Apple devices via the App Store and on Android devices via Google Play by searching for “Mohonk.”

While it is not required to use the app, we recommend connecting to our in-house WiFi network and using earbuds for the best immersive experience.
